The Gravel calculator calculates the volume and mass of gravel during construction projects. You can estimate the cost of gravel for your project by entering the dimensions of the construction site. This will streamline your planning process of construction.

Definition of Gravel:

Gravel is chipped or rounded rock fragments typically in diameter ranging from 3mm to 75mm or 0.125 inches to 3 inches. In construction work, do you already know how much gravel you need for your projects? If don’t, then starting with our gravel calculator makes the calculations easier as it instant shows ….

Gravel Types and Its Use:

Gravel is used to make concrete, and create foundations for new roads. It is mixed with asphalt and fills construction sites for specific requirements. Gravel even creates other construction materials like blocks, pipes, and bricks.

The different types of Gravel are:

  • Bank Gravel
  • Bench Gravel
  • River Rock (Creek Rock)
  • Crushed Stone
  • Fine Gravel
  • Stone Dust
  • Lag Gravel
  • Pay Dirt
  • Pea Gravel
  • Piedmont Gravel
  • Plateau Gravel

How Do You Calculate Gravel Volume?

Granular gravel ranges from (2–4 mm or 0.079–0.157 in) to pebble gravel (4–64 mm or 0.2–2.5 in). Measure the length & width of the area, and how much rock do I need?

  • Area of the surface (A = L X W)
  •  Find the Depth
  •  volume  (V= A X Depth)

Let's suppose that depth = d = 2 yd and area is 18 yd^2 Then V= 18 × 2 = 36 yd³

Example:

A construction site length is 10 ft, width 20 ft, and depth 5 ft. Then how much gravel do I need?

Solution:

Now
L =  10 ft
W =  20 ft
D =  5 ft

Then the area:
A = L X W
A = 10  X 20
A = 200 ft^2

The volume of gravel is:
V = A X D
V = 200 X 5
V = 1000 ft^3

How to Calculate Gravel Weight?

A given formula helps you to find the gravel weight without the use of any rock calculator.
The formula is:

Density = (Mass/Volume)
Mass = (Density  X Volume)

How Much Does a Cubic Yard of Gravel Weight?

Let's consider the required volume is 3780 ft^3 and a density of 104.88 Lb/ft^3, then find the weight needed.

Solution:

Density = 104.88 lb/ft^3
Volume = 3780 ft^3

So

Mass = (Density  X Volume)
Mass = (104.88  X 3780)
Mass = 396446.4 lbs or 198.223 tons

FAQs:

How Do I Calculate How Much Gravel I Need?

Multiply the Length in feet x Width in feet x Depth in feet. Then divide it with 12 to convert it into Inches. Take the total and divide it by 21.6, it is the amount in tons. The final figure will be the estimated amount of Tons required

What Area Will 1 Ton of Gravel Cover?

The driveway is at least  50mm deep, and 1 ton covers approximately 14 square meters. If you are in doubt, use our pea gravel calculator for accurate quotation and pea gravel cost.

How Much Will 20 Tons of Gravel Cover?

It is approximately 2000 square feet and 20 tons of gravel would cover the exact depth. However, it is always better to consult a supplier or use a landscape rock calculator for accurate estimation.
